A Stress-Free Summer with Friends, Family and Self-Care is Possible

Enjoying a stress-free summer while balancing time friends and family can be a tall order - but it can be achieved! It takes a combination of flexibility, planning and incorporating relaxing activities. Regardless of the season, taking a moment to prioritize your self-care is valid and important.




Finding a Balance:

 

Planning ahead is a great skill and incredibly valuable - but staying flexible is key when plans go sideways. Flexibility doesn't just provide room for self-love and acceptance, but also for spontaneous fun and relaxation!

 

Having a balance is key - not every day has to be filled with get-up-and-go activities that require intense planning. Below are some ideas of activities that can be relaxing and fun:

 

  • If you're invested in nutrition, simplify meals and snacks with lots of fruits and vegetables - these don't need a lot of prep! During BBQs, try to incorporate an abundance of chicken and shrimp, with the occasional ribs and steaks to ensure a diversity of proteins.  

  • If you enjoy gardening, include the kids! Opportunities to learn about nature are always valuable, and there's a bonus: water-gun fights and watering plants can go hand-in-hand!

  • For rainy days, try low-stress activities like puzzles, reading, watching movies, or simple arts and crafts - these can be enjoyable for everyone and don't require a lot of physical or mental fatigue.

  • Take advantage of community events and volunteering. These can make for great stories for kids to share in the coming school year, as well as teach them the importance of giving back to the community and caring for others.

A Few More Tips for a Relaxing Summer:


  • Limit screen time and leave your iPads at home

  • Nap time is highly recommended - whenever you can!

  • Try for a nighttime walk to stargaze or look at the moon

  • Invite your neighbors to an outdoor movie screening

  • Stay safe, wear sunscreens, and always carry your first-aid kit

  • Drink water! If staying hydrated is difficult, try adding water flavoring
